As I Stand
Hidee, hidee, hidee, ho, this is how my story goes,
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, I survived a devastating blow,
It came from my favorite fix, what a year in 2006,
Throw a day off in the mix, went to the beach to goof off,
I took a chance and dove into the waves,
Not worried about the consequence,
…silence all around as I take in the underwater scene, …BAM…
…I grenaded my neck and didn’t know it,
As a shot o’ pain went through me, burning like gasoline
All I could think of was…I’m a lean, mean, fighting machine…well, at least that’s what they told us Marines,
Hours of pain and misery, confused as to what is real,
I can no longer feel my left arm, I even noticed it turned blue, this can’t be true,
…this is just a fluke…
Later, x-rays revealed the damage done,
No natural healing here,
Oh yeah, I got a little roughed up,
I felt more pressure from being alone,
No one around but my family and one friend,
There was no fear in my eye as I was determined to survive,
…all I can see is the ghost of what I was from the day before,
I am now just a memory of what remains lying on the floor,
Where surgery gave me another chance at life,
As I owe it all to HIM, I know someone is watching over me,
As I came back from the darkness of surgery with a pen in my hand,
…had no choice…couldn’t talk for six months…
I began to express myself in words, it’s these words that fulfill most of my dreams for now,
Where I survived the accident, and let us not forget the addiction to the pain meds, it’s not every day that doctors tell you, “you should be dead”, you can only guess the thought in my head,
Whereas I stand before you, I bare a new tattoo, to tell the tale, on old broken pirate ship you see, I saw it fitting as I nearly lost my life to the sea.
